We have been asked by several customers to create a document with instructions on how to add encryption to the professional Olympus recorder.
The steps are basically the same for a Mac OS computer and a Windows OS computer, the only difference is the software for a Windows OS computer is Olympus Dictation Management System (ODMS) and for a Mac OS computers it's the Olympus DSS player.
You can select the folder in which you want to have encrypted files, each folder can have a different password, and each folder either 256bit (high) encryption or 128bit (standard) encryption.
Below are the step-by-step instructions to set up the encryption.
1. Make sure that you download the DSS player.
2. Connect the Olympus professional dictation recorder DS-3500 or DS-7000, once connected followed the path below:
3. Device > Device Settings ... > Device Folders
4. In the folder tree section, Select "Folder A"
5. Click on the right side where it says "Password"
6. A pop-up window will allow you to choose a password.
7. Click to the right side of "Encryption" to select the type of encryption you need.
8. Select "OK" on the bottom of the window.
Now everything that's dictated within Folder A will be encrypted, and require the password to playback the voice file.
You can follow the same steps for all other folders that you need to be encrypted.
