High-quality hardware built to last
We are especially proud of the quality and longevity of our products. Devices like the market-leading Philips SpeechMike family are extremely reliable and durable, even with daily use.
Why?
• Philips SpeechMikes are developed specifically for heavy use, designed to be utilized multiple hours a day.
• Having development, testing, quality management, and production in one central location is an immense advantage to our customers, as we can incorporate feedback quickly.
. • Buttons or slide switches for operating our devices are manufactured to last a minimum of 3 million operation cycles.
Products change - innovation remains. DictationOne has been in the dictation business
for 20 years, developing and producing high-quality professional dictation solutions.
There are several issues
when working with outdated devices
Even though Philips hardware will continue working from a quality standpoint for many
years, we advise our customers to exchange old hardware devices regularly. As soon as there
is a new software version in place – for example, the recent upgrades to Windows 10 – older
devices may no longer be compatible.
The following problems can occur if the hardware is not updated regularly. We compiled these scenarios
based on actual cases we have experienced with end customers:
• When customers upgrade to Windows 10 or the latest Citrix or WTS versions, older devices may no longer work
properly. With the current hardware (LFH32xx/LFH35xx/SMP37xx/SMP40xx) you can avoid compatibility
issues.
• Older devices were developed before many virtual environments existed and have not been tested to fit new
environments, like VMware Horizon 7.7.0, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 19xx, etc.
• Current IT infrastructure needs the newest drivers and extensions. However, these drivers and extensions do
not function properly with outdated hardware.
• Old hardware (which is labeled as end-of-support) cannot be provided with new firmware in case of
incompatibilities due to technological limitations
• Systems like HIS, PACS/RIS, LAB, etc. will contain new device drivers or other SDK components after updates,
which will cause incompatibilities with outdated hardware immediately after rollout.
• Devices older than the above-mentioned versions have been officially labeled as end-of-life and end-of-support for a very long time. As soon as you run into difficulties, there is very little we or our certified partners
can do to enable the hardware to function properly.
• SpeechSDKs need to be up-to-date to be compatible with the latest Philips hardware.
The consequences of these situations are troublesome.
• Doctors lose valuable time and experience difficulties when they need to unplug or reboot a malfunctioning
device.
• Having new devices not only saves time but also money. Investing in new and efficient hardware is
worthwhile, taking into account how much just one hour of downtime in a hospital or clinic may cost.
• Malfunctioning devices are a danger for the content of the recording, as parts of a report can be missing
without the doctor noticing.
• In the worst case, large parts of your documentation system may malfunction abruptly. This impacts the time
patients need to wait for consultation or treatment. If doctors need to switch to manual documentation, it may
cause data loss and can be disrupting to workflows.
• When the systems are up and running again, personnel need to use valuable time in order to catch up with the backlog, on top of keeping up with current tasks. In some cases, the quality of treatment may decrease due to
incomplete or inaccessible information, and overall patient relationships and trust may suffer.
An up-to-date solution
comes with many benefits
• With updated hardware, all components of your documentation solution work together seamlessly, which
means you don‘t have to worry about compatibility issues.
• Having the latest hardware improves usability and efficiency, as these solutions are continuously developed
based on market requirements and customer feedback.
• The newest SpeechMikes come with 6 personalized button modes. These modes include “browser” mode
for applications that run via web-browser and “Dragon” mode which opens additional functionalities when
using speech recognition from Nuance.
• More and more hospital information systems are entirely web-based. Having the latest hardware means that
you are future-proof.
• Tests according to ISO 856: 2019 (determination of the effect of microorganisms on plastics) have shown that
the plastic material of the SpeechMike Premium does not provide a breeding ground for germs and fungi,
which makes it ideal to use in healthcare environments.
• Unique microphone technology as well as suppression of surrounding sounds and touch noise, guarantee the best possible audio quality for speech recognition results.
What can you do next?
If you are unsure your system is 100% up-to-date, we will gladly look at the current system you have in place (hardware, drivers, SDK) and recommend the best solution for you.
If you do need to update your solution, we will ensure that you receive the best possible care and support.
