New quick start guide
New embedded quick start guide in the user interface and interactive wizard, making it more intuitive when using the app for the first time. When starting the app for the first time, the user is guided through their initial dictation and first time usage of the most important features:

No 30-day limitation
Our app reviews clearly show that customers didn’t like the “30-day free use” limitation they had for free usage. Therefore we have a new approach in version 3.0. There is no limitation!
SpeechLive banner in recordings list
As this version of the app will be free of charge, we will promote SpeechLive more aggressively in the app. One change that was made is the permanent banner that is visible in the ‘Recordings’ tab of the application.
SpeechLive tutorial videos
In addition to the SpeechLive banner, we also created SpeechLive tutorial videos that will help the user to find their way through the SpeechLive sign-up process/login process, and also explain how the speech recognition service and the transcription service can be used.
The tutorial videos will pop up as advertisements if the user has not signed up for SpeechLive yet, but they are also available in the ‘Help’ section of the app.
Easy sharing with ‘share with’ dialog (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.)
With this version the user can share their audio file with all other apps supporting the file format (.wav). After the user has finished their dictation, they tap on the ‘Share’ button and select “Other sending options”. Now the ‘share with’ dialog pops up showing them all other apps installed on the device that support the file format.
Easy in-app SpeechLive trial signup
We have implemented an easy way of signing up for a SpeechLive trial in the app. In the signup process, the nearest SPS partner is automatically selected.
Support background sending
Customers wanted to have the option to send off dictations even if they currently don’t have an internet connection. The user can now send a recording to SpeechLive, mobile server, or dictation hub without having an internet connection. The dictation selected for sending is grayed out.
As soon as the connection is re-established, the dictation will be sent to the backend system.
Voice recorder widget
The new voice recorder widget now makes it even easier to start a recording instantly. The user can put the voice recorder widget on their Home screen and immediately start a dictation without having to open the app. This option saves time and helps users who need to make recordings quickly to easily capture ideas on the go.
In car recording mode
The new in-car recording mode was designed for users who have a smartphone cradle in their car and would like to have the most important functions of the voice recorder app easily accessible on a clean recording screen. The car mode can be set in the configurable action bar in the app and is then easily accessible via the action button.
To enter the car mode you first have to add it to the action bar:
Cut recording sequences
Another new feature is the ‘Cut’ function on the recording screen which allows the user to cut out parts of the recording. To enter the editing mode, simply tap the scissor symbol beneath the audio progress bar.
Now you can play back the file to where you want to start the cutting process. Select the left scissor symbol to mark the beginning of the sequence you want to cut out. Now play back the file to where you want to end the cutting process. Tap the right scissor symbol to mark the end of the sequence you want to cut out. Then tap the trash bin to delete the marked sequence.
This function makes it easy to cut out silence parts of the recording or any other parts of the audio file that should not be processed.
Change requirements for encryption password
Previously the encryption password required exactly 16 characters, which in many cases led to very generic passwords. The requirement has now been changed to min. 4 and max. 16 characters, allowing the user to choose how secure their password should be.
Rename ‘Forwarding’ to ‘Sending options’
For a clearer understanding to the customer, we decided to change the wording of the option ‘Forwarding’ to ‘Sending options’.
Audio progress bar can be disabled
Some SpeechAir customers gave us the feedback that they sometimes accidentally touched the audio progress bar while pausing recording. This issue led to a loss of data, as the users simply overwrote their dictation.
Adjustable winding speed
Customers also requested the option to change the winding speed of our app. We therefore
implemented a new function, which is accessible under ‘Settings/More/Adjust winding speed’.
The user can choose between:
- 4x slower
- 2x slower
- Normal
- 2x faster
- 4x faster
In app purchase (Ads-free version, Email template)
1. Email template
If a customer only uses the email function, they can purchase
the email template to save time when entering the recipient’s
email address. This option is available for 1.09 USD
2. Ads-free version
If a customer likes our app but does not want to purchase it, they can also choose to buy the ads-free version for 4.59 USD.
Remark: SpeechAir customers automatically have both options activated.
Always set EOL-Flag when sending to network share
SpeechAir customers sometimes had issues in combination with SpeechExec when sending dictations to a network folder that were not set EOL. Therefore we changed the functionality of this sending option. The EOL flag is now automatically set when a recording is sent to a network folder.
EOL soft button also opens new dictation
Some SpeechAir customers complained about the EOL soft button not
immediately opening a new file. Therefore we implemented this functionality in version 3.0.
Increase max. characters in dictation name
Some customers reported that they would like to see more characters of their dictation name on the recording screen. Therefore we increased the number of characters shown on the screen to 25.
Dictations are sent twice
If a SpeechAir user sent a dictation via a Wi-Fi connection to SpeechLive and then connected the SpeechAir to the PC, the dictation was sent twice to SpeechExec. We have now implemented a new flag that shows that the dictation has already been sent once. As soon as SpeechExec supports this new flag, we can avoid such cases in the future.
No ADPCM conversion for free sending options
To avoid issues, as seen in older versions with ADPCM codecs that needed to be installed, we decided not to convert the files that are sent via email or via any other free sending option. Those files will stay in the .wav format in which they were recorded.
Track attachment download in Google Analytics
For future versions it’s important to know how many customers use the ‘download attachment’ option in our app. Therefore we expanded Google Analytics to track how many users take advantage of this function.
Don’t allow spaces in dictation hub email address
To avoid accidental spaces between characters in the email address, we have changed the
preconditions for the entry in this field so that when a customer who types spaces in the dictation hub email address receive a warning message.
Maximum recording time implemented
Previously we had no limit on the recording time which in some cases led to troubles. As there was no more space on the device to record, this issue led to corrupted files. We have now changed the functionality. The app can calculate how much space is left on the device and set a maximum recording time based on that information. As soon as the space is used, the dictation stops and the user gets a warning message.
SpeechLive not active anymore if no user is logged in
An issue was fixed where SpeechLive was shown as active even if the user was not logged in.
Dictation symbol is not changed to ‘uploaded’
A bug was fixed that caused the dictation symbol not to change to ‘uploaded’.

The App is tested on the following devices, but should work on any Android device running Android OS 4.4.2 and upwards.
